Total Number of Available Assistantships: Contingent upon annual budget.

Eligibility: Minimum requirements:

  • Students who have taken graduate courses should have a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Students who have not taken graduate courses must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Superior writing and speaking skills in English (fluent and idiomatic) are expected
  • Preference will be given to students with teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Awards are made only to applicants admitted as regular students by the time awards become effective.

Terms: Every year Graduate Assistantships are awarded to outstanding students engaged in full-time study toward a Master’s Degree in English. These awards take the form of a semester stipend (currently $3,480) and a nine-credit hour tuition waiver for each semester in which an assistantship is held. Students granted assistantships at the beginning of their program are eligible to apply for a second year of support. In accordance with the regulations of the Graduate College, Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in at least nine hours of course work during each semester of the assistantship.

Total Number of Available Assistantships: Varies depending upon budget

Eligibility: Students must be eligible to be admitted to the graduate program as a regular degree-seeking student.

Application Requirements: Application for graduate admissions; sealed official transcript indicating baccalaureate degree conferred; an undergraduate major in history with a GPA of 3.00 or better, or sufficient undergraduate history courses with grades of B or better to serve as an indicator of probable success in the graduate history program; two or more letters of recommendation from professors from whom the applicant has taken advanced undergraduate history courses.

Terms: Assistantships are awarded for one or two semesters with an option for a third semester. Most assistantships provide a stipend in conjunction with tuition waiver; some provide a tuition waiver only.

Deadline: Rolling deadline, but decisions for assistantships for Fall are made in April and for Spring in November.

Total Number of Available Assistantships: Varies depending upon funding and number of applicants

Eligibility: Is the assistantship limited to a person of specific academic standing, grade level, etc. Student must have been admitted to the Graduate College and Music Department, and have an undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Application Requirements: Music major must submit application by March 1 for following academic year.

Terms: Graduate assistantships are given out on annual and semester basis. Assistantships provide a stipend; other graduate awards are tuition waivers.

Deadline: By March 1 for following academic year.

Eligibility: Sociology MA student

Terms: Tuition credit, plus stipend, and 20 hours of RA or TA duties. Tuition grants are also given.
