William G. Zurkey

William G. Zurkey has directed choirs for 36 years, most recently as director of choral activities at Avon Lake High School. His Avon Lake Chorale performed at nine OMEA Professional Conventions, and the Midwest Kodaly Music Educators Regional Convention. Mr. Zurkey has served OMEA as a District Honors Choir guest conductor and state chair for the All-State Choir. He has also served on the curriculum writing team for fine arts academic standards with the Ohio Department of Education.
Mr. Zurkey is currently the president of the Ohio Choral Directors Association and a member of the ACDA Central Division Board. Mr. Zurkey is also the originator and director of the new Cleveland Pops Orchestra Chorus.
He has also been the Director of the Senior Honors Chorale on the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music Outreach Program and as an adjunct Faculty of Music Education at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music where he directed the Women’s Chorale. Mr. Zurkey has recently been named BGSU 2013 College of Musical Arts Accomplished Graduate. Mr. Zurkey has also coached football for thirty years, and is also organist at the Bay United Methodist Church in Bay Village, Ohio.
Mr. Zurkey holds a bachelor of music education degree from Bowling Green State University, a master of music degree from Cleveland State University, and has done additional work in doctoral studies at Kent State University.
