In partnership with the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), Cleveland State University was selected to implement a String Project a teacher training program for college students that also provides area children with affordable instruction on the violin, viola, cello and string bass. Classes are taught by Cleveland State University Music Department string majors under the supervision of Master Teacher Megan Clay Constantine Ph.D, a certified experienced strings instructor.

Levels: Beginner is our entry level. Beginners in grades three to eight are eligible to participate. Students receive instruction in a large group of mixed instruments using the Essential Elements Volume 1 method book. Mondays and Wednesdays 5:00 - 5:45 pm.

Advanced consists of those who are ready to continue their study in a string orchestra setting. They are in their second or third year of study. Instruction is from select string orchestra repertoire. Depending upon enrollment, students may also work from a method book (to be determined). Mondays and Wednesdays 5:45 - 6:45 pm.

Where: All classes will be held at in the Music and Communications Building, Room G15, at Cleveland State University. (Corner of Euclid Avenue and East 21st Street). There are some free parking spots on Euclid between E 21st and E 18. There is also a visitors' parking garage ($1 per hour) on E. 22nd Street under the new student center. You can also park on the NORTH side of Chester at a parking meter. DO NOT PARK on the south side of Chester Avenue at this time (rush hour). You will be ticketed. Visitor parking ($1 per hour) is also available in the South Garage on E.21st and Prospect.

When: Semester classes begin Monday February 13th, 2012 and continue through to Wednesday May 9th. There is a new parent/student meeting on Monday February 13th at 5:00 in the Music and Communications Building, Room G15, at Cleveland State University. (Corner of Euclid Avenue and East 21st Street)

Instruments: The CSU String Project works with Rettig Music to provide instruments at an affordable rate, starting at $9 per semester.

String Project members are expected to participate in their school music program if one is available.

Beginner introductory fee = $45
Second semester students = $55
All other returning students = $65.
