DENNIS NYGREN was Professor of Clarinet at Kent State University from 1983 to 2012. Prior to this Dr. Nygren was a faculty member at Northern Michigan University and a soloist with the North American Air Defense (NORAD) Band. His teachers include Robert Marcellus, Stanley Hasty, Larry Combs, Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, Keith Stein, and Jerome Stowell. Dennis Nygren was the first clarinetist to earn a Doctor of Music degree from Northwestern University. He has performed five times at International Clarinet Association Conferences, many national performances, and internationally in Canada, Iceland, Greece, and Egypt. Orchestral performances include those with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Akron Symphony, and many other N.E. Ohio ensembles. His recently released CD—A Clarinet Collective—Albany Records, Troy 1330, features works written for him or arranged by him. He has also recorded Frank Wiley’s Star-Fall Dances. Dennis Nygren has published 5 articles in The Clarinet magazine and has arranged works for clarinet and wind ensemble and clarinet and string quartet. His arrangement of Victor Babin’s Hillandale Waltzes has been performed by both the United States Marine and Navy Bands and was recorded by Chicago Symphony clarinetist John Bruce Yeh. Composers Halim El-dabh, John Ferritto, Mary Ann Griebling, Alan Stout, and Frank Wiley have dedicated works to him.
