Lily E. Hirsch is Assistant Professor of Music at Cleveland State University. She earned a Bachelor of Music magna cum laude from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Pacific in 2001. In 2006, she received a Ph.D. in musicology from Duke University. Her book A Jewish Orchestra in Nazi Germany: Musical Politics and the Berlin Jewish Culture League is forthcoming from the University of Michigan Press (2010). Her work has appeared in Musical Quarterly, Philomusica, and the Journal of Popular Music Studies. She has also presented at the national conferences of the American Musicological Society, the Society for Ethnomusicology, and the International Association for the Study of Popular Music. Her work on the Jewish Culture League has been generously supported by the German Historical Institute, German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD), Leo Baeck Institute, and the American Musicological Society.
