Matthew Bassett is an active performer and educator in the Cleveland area. He is a lecturer in percussion and Percussion Ensemble Director at both Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University.

As a performer, Mr. Bassett has previously served as principal timpanist in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Wellington, New Zealand. He has performed as a concerto soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Canton Symphony. In 1992, Mr. Bassett performed in the U.S. premiere performance of Four4 by John Cage. Currently, he is principal timpanist for both the Mansfield Symphony and Cleveland Pops,and principal timpanist/percussionist with Apollo's Fire (The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra). He also performs frequently with numerous groups in the region including The Cleveland Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

Mr. Bassett holds a Bachelors degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music and a Masters degree from Cleveland State University. His wife Kathleen teaches music in the Lakewood City Schools.
