Brian Bailey has been Director of Choirs at Cleveland State University since 2009, conducting the CSU Chorale and the University Chorus, and teaching Choral Methods and Vocal Techniques for the Classroom. For the 2008-09 year, Dr. Bailey was the Acting Director of Choirs at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where he directed the William and Mary Choir, the Women’s Chorus, and the Botetourt Chamber Singers. Dr. Bailey’s training as a choral conductor includes study and ensemble experience at Augustana College (Illinois), The Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, and The University of Iowa. His principal teachers include Timothy Stalter, Donald Morrison, Robert Porco, Jan Harrington, and Donald Neuen. He is currently completing a doctoral degree in choral conducting at The University of Iowa, where he conducted programs with the Camerata Singers and with Kantorei, the select chamber choir.
From 1994 to 2004 Dr. Bailey was on the faculty of the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. His duties there included directing the Appalachian Chorale, a college/community choir; coordinating the degree program in sacred music; and teaching music theory and applied organ and harpsichord. He has held a variety of positions as a church musician, and has also been active as a harpsichordist and continuo player.
