Bachelor of Arts in Music

Dr. Angelin Chang, Advisor

The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music takes a liberal arts approach to the study of music through broad coverage of the field rather than heavy concentration in one area. The B.A. is founded on the belief that participation in other disciplines will enhance or align with the candidate’s interest in music. The program requires the development of not only theoretical and historical knowledge but also practical skills in musicianship and performance. The B.A. is not traditionally considered to be the appropriate track for those seeking a career in performing. Instead, the major's elective requirement presents an opportunity for exploration of other academic areas of interest, and provides additional background for a self-designed senior project that culminates the degree.
