School of Music

Auditions / Music Talent Scholarships & Graduate Assistantships

Q: When and where will auditions are held?
A: School of Music audition days are scheduled in February and March prior to the following Academic Year. To ensure consideration for the Music Talent Scholarship, you should audition no later than last posted audition date prior to your anticipated enrollment at Cleveland State. Auditions are held in the Music & Communication Building.

Q: May I submit a tape rather than audition in person?
A: All applicants are strongly encouraged to audition on campus. CD or DVD auditions may be accepted from out-of-state applicants (at least 400 mi.) and international applicants, where travel to Cleveland presents an extreme hardship. Please make sure the audition repertoire on the CD/DVD is in accordance with the Undergraduate Audition Requirements. To guarantee full consideration for the Music Talent Scholarship students must submit an Audition Video/DVD no later than the last scheduled on-campus audition day. Audition results are reviewed and admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis.

Q: How do I schedule an audition?
A: To schedule audition date and time, contact the school's enrollment office at music@csuohio.edu.

Q: How do I prepare for the audition?
A: Please refer to Required Audition Repertoire - Undergraduate Audition Requirements

Q: Do I need to bring an accompanist?
A: Instrumentalists are not required to bring an accompanist.  Vocalists: An accompanist will be provided for vocal auditions.

Q: Do I have to be music major to receive a music talent scholarship?
A: The School of Music offers talent-based music scholarships to qualified in-coming freshmen, transfer students, and current students regardless of major, in return for participation in School of Music ensembles. To ensure consideration, prospective students should audition no later than the last posted audition date prior to their anticipated enrollment at Cleveland State. Questions about the Music Talent Scholarship should be directed to the Enrollment Office – music@csuohio.edu.

Q: I am applying as a transfer candidate. May I audition for a music talent scholarship?
A: Yes.

Q: When will I find out if I have been awarded a music talent scholarship or graduate assistantship?
A: Awards for music talent scholarships and graduate awards (stipends and tuition waivers) are determined in March prior to enrollment at Cleveland State. Applicants are informed of the results in April.
