Susan Scullin, a CSU student who is majoring in International Relations and Sociology, has received a scholarship from the Université de Rouen in Normandy, France, to study the French language and culture in Rouen this summer as part of their “Campus d’été.” This three-week program is organized around the theme of “Normandie Impressionniste” and will include morning language classes along with excursions to sites in Normandy associated with the impressionists such as Claude Monet’s much-painted home and gardens in Giverny. L’Université de Rouen is offering this summer scholarship to promote interest in the exchange program the university has established with Cleveland State University. The exchange was set up as part of the sister city agreement between Cleveland and Rouen that was led by a delegation of Cleveland officials headed by Mayor Jackson in 2008. Last summer a Rouen delegation visited Cleveland and toured our campus. The Ohio Chapter of the French American Chamber of Commerce helped organize the sister city delegation, and has also been supportive of our student exchange program. They are sponsoring Susan Scullin’s trip to France this summer by paying for her roundtrip airfare. Susan will be in Rouen from August 2nd to the 20th and will keep an online journal of her adventures in France to share with the Cleveland State University community. CSU Students interested in participating in the Rouen exchange program for a semester or academic year can contact Tama Engelking in the
Department of Modern Languages at 523-7175.
