General Collection:

Cleveland attorney and Mayan enthusiast, Peter Harwood, has generously donated his major collection of rare and unusual books on ancient Mayan culture to the Cleveland State University Library and the K'inal Winik Cultural Center. This unique collection, consisting of more than 650 seminal works along with nearly 200 unpublished scholarly papers concentrating on Mayan art, archaeology, culture, language, and writing dramatically increase and enhance the breadth and depth of the Library's anthropological holdings. The majority of the collection consists of rare and difficult-to-find titles focusing on the early history and decipherment of Mayan hieroglyphic writing. By Mr. Harwood's request, many of these resources are available in the general collection for use by students and the public.

Special Collection:

Of special interest to scholars are the 108 books that are the focal point for the new Mayan archive of the Library's Special Collections. Titles include many first editions, lavishly illustrated rare volumes, and boxed-set facsimile editions of Maya and Aztec codices. Based on the breadth of its holdings, the Peter Harwood Collection.
