Jacklyn FryJackyln has been working as a student assistant to the K'inal Winik Cultural Center since January 2006. She is an Honors Program student who is seeing a bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Sociology with minors in both Women's Studies and English. Working at the KWCC has revived Jacklyn's childhood interest in ancient societies. Jacklyn's work at the KWCC has exposed her to the plight and hardships that the Maya and other indigenous people undergo. This exposure is both enlightening and rewarding because her career interest lies in community development and possibly human rights activism. The Center has provided unique opportunities for Jacklyn to become involved in educational programming as well. She feels education is a crucial tool in empowering all people and will use the skills learned from the KWCC in her future work and research. Jacklyn is very involved on campus both academically and with various student organizations. She is involved in the Anthropology Association, Honors Mellowship and Student Government Association. Jacklyn works as an AHANA peer mentor and a resident assistant at Fenn Tower. She volunteers with the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, Cleveland Museum of Natural history, and also at Case Elementary School. Jacklyn will graduate in spring 2008 and hopes to continue on to earn her PhD. in Sociocultural Anthropology. |
