Class enrollment up 7.3 percent
By Audrey McCrone
The effort of the Enrollment Challenge Team, which was formed in March
2006, is paying off, as indicated by the growing
enrollment of undergraduate credit hours. The College of Liberal Arts
and Social Sciences saw a 7.3 percent increase as of
Nov. 25, 2007 in undergraduate credit hours compared to fall 2006, according
to the preliminary report compiled by the
Department of Institutional Research.
The figure translates into 1,779 additional credit hours taken by
undergraduate students. The 15-member team included Dr.Gregory M. Sadlek,
CLASS dean, according to Vice President for Administration Mike Droney,
who is also a member of the team.
We worked very hard to recruit people, Dr. Sadlek said,
adding the increase in enrollment was a result of Droneys dedication.
University-wide, undergraduate credit hour enrollment is up 3.5 percent
as of Nov. 25, 2007 compared to the enrollment for the same period in
2006. Congratulations are in order campus-wide to the many people
who have played roles in recruiting students to our university,
said Droney.
In addition to the Enrollment Challenge Team, Marketing and Public
Affairs and other departments played an important role. It shows
what can be accomplished when people pull together for a very worthwhile
common cause, Droney said. There are now a total of 2,711
new undergraduate students as of Sept . 18, exceeding the target of
2,700, said Brian J. Johnston, director of Marketing and Public
Affairs.
