Professional Experience & Community Activities

Edward Horowitz is a native New Yorker who became interested in media while living in the “big” city. He feels that living in a large-scale city like New York opened his eyes to the influence and importance of the media.

The students who take his classes study the impact of media through different outlets such as politics. This self-proclaimed “news junkie,” likes to teach all of his students to be “critical of all politics regardless of their own political persuasion.”
Horowitz conducts research in the field of political socialization, and is currently working on a three-year project looking at how college students experience and react to the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks through media influences. In addition, he is studying student’s attitudes on the war in Iraq.

Education

He received his bachelor’s degree in political science at Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania, and then received his masters and Ph.D. in mass communication at the University of Wisconsin.
