By Aaron Cutteridge

Kara SherwoodVikings tennis was dominant in Michigan as the men’s team defeated Detroit Saturday, March 29 and the women’s team beat Detroit on Saturday. The team followed up Sunday, March 30 with a commanding win over Oakland.

The men handily won the doubles match play as Ali Shabib and Joe VanMeter beat Chance Conley and Rafael Orantes 8-2, and Matt Kuelker and Nolan Marks notched an 8-1 victory over Titans Jay Joshi and Ismail Kadyrov.

The Titans could not answer the Vikings in singles play as only one match needed to go to three sets to be decided. Reigning Horizon League Player of the Week Matt Kuelker won his tenth straight match and VanMeter won his ninth straight match.

The 7-0 sweep over the Titans has the men Vikings perfect on the season in Horizon League matches and are ten wins and six losses on the season.

The lady Vikings are undefeated in Horizon League play with the victories over the Detroit Titans and Oakland Golden Grizzlies.

The women held off the Titans to win the competition 4-3 on the strong singles play by Lauren Golick, Victoria Bensimon and Alex Bush. Kara Sherwood needed three sets, but won her match to assure a Vikings win.

Sunday, March 30 the lady Vikes faced the Golden Grizzlies in Rochester and jumped out to an early lead winning the doubles matches and never looked back. Princess Gbadamosi earned her fifteenth singles victory of the season to close out the Vikings’ day with a 5-2 victory over Oakland.
