‘Hot in Cleveland’ star enrolls at university on TV Land sitcom

Betty White, star in the TV Land sitcom “Hot in Cleveland,” is bringing her talents to Cleveland State.
Not literally, but her character on the show will be attending classes in the upcoming season.
“She’s taking classes for a new business that she’s starting,” said Todd Millner, executive producer of the TV Land sitcom.
Millner said he could not discuss what business Elka, White’s character, is starting, but he did reveal one thing.
“She’s taking Accounting at Cleveland State,” he said.
Her co-star, Jane Leeves, who plays the character Joy, will also be enrolled at Cleveland State. Millner explained that she is still undecided about her field of study.
The picture of White in her bedazzled Cleveland State sweatshirt has gone viral.
Erupting on all forms of social media, students have expressed their excitement of Cleveland State’s exposure.
“I think it’s awesome that Cleveland State is getting recognition on national television,” said Paul Noble, a Cleveland State student.
On the university’s Facebook page, students are unanimous in their opinions. With prideful comments from alumni to current students boasting about their school, everyone is excited over this.
“I remember when I dated her, I let her borrow that sweatshirt,” Brody Fiesler, Cleveland State student, joked. “She never gave it back, obviously.”
Sadly, students cannot pick up their own bedazzled sweatshirt at the bookstore.
White customized her sweatshirt. Her character on the show bedazzles everything — it is one of her quirks.
“I think that the bookstore should start selling sweatshirts like that one,” said Megan McCarthy. “I’d buy it.”
The show currently will not be filming anything on campus, but a few exterior shots may be a possibility in the future.
‘Hot in Cleveland’ is TV Land’s first original scripted series. It stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and of course, Betty White.
It centers on three industry veterans — Melanie Moretti (Bertinelli), Rejoyla “Joy” Scroggs (Leeves) and Victoria Chase (Malick)from Los Angeles — who find Cleveland to be less shallow and more accepting of an older crowd. The three lease a home with a sassy caretaker, Elka.
The series premiered in June 2010 and became TV Land’s highest rated show in the station’s 14-year history.
The new season begins Wednesday, Nov. 28 on TV Land at 10 p.m.
