The Cleveland State men’s and women’s basketball teams stood at attention for coaches Gary Waters and Kate Peterson at Viking Madness last Saturday.
The annual event, which was part of the university’s homecoming week, introduced the two basketball teams and showcased some of their talents for the upcoming 2012-2013 season at the campus Wolstein Center.
Both teams emerged from the locker rooms sporting full U. S. Army outfits and lined up to be introduced by their coaches. After introductions and a brief pep speech from Waters, the teams separated and mingled for a series of showcase events, including a three-point contest and an obstacle course.
Students were also given the chance to get involved with the event as prizes were handed out and some had to be earned. The event featured a half-court shot contest boasting a $1,000 prize. None of the participants were successful, but all walked away with a $100 gift card.
The night ended with a slam dunk contest, which was won by sophomore Marlin Mason on a reverse dunk for his third of the night.
After the event, fans had the opportunity to meet with the teams and coaches.
The 2012-2013 basketball season begins on Friday, Nov. 9 as the women take on South Dakota and the men host Grambling right after.
