Womens soccer records two early
road victories
By Gavin Keenan
The CSU womens soccer team is off to its best start in its brief
four-year existence.
With wins at IPFW and Delaware State, the ladies recorded their first
two road victories in team history. Entering their four-game road trip,
the Vikings were 0-31-1 in their history away from Krenzler Field.
After suffering two home defeats at the hands of St. Bonaventure and
DePaul, CSU took its show on the road to IPFW. There the Vikings rallied
from a 4-2 halftime deficit to pull out a 5-4 victory in double overtime.
Led by junior Jennifer Wieand, who put in the game-tying tally as the
final whistle was about to sound, followed it up with a game-winning
goal in overtime.
Once we came out for overtime we just knew IPFW had no chance,
said Wieand. Our team just came out so strong, it was great to
see.
After snagging the teams first ever road win, the Vikings were
soundly beaten in their next outing, against Temple. The Owls picked
apart the CSU and handed them an 8-1 defeat.
However, the Vikings responded with a decisive 3-0 win at Delaware State.
In Delaware, the triple-threat of Wieand, Shayna Back and Sylvia Olsby
all beat the keeper in the one-sided victory.
The Vikings finish up their current four-game road trip at Akron, before
returning to Krenzler Field to battle Canisius in a non-conference match.
