Students participate in summer
dance workshop and concert

Being flexible, working hard, having fun and looking forward to the summer dance concert are just a few things that come to mind for students participating in this year’s Cleveland State University summer dance workshop.
The workshop runs from July 10 through July 28 with a variety of classes daily.
Some of the classes include contemporary technique, Pilates, yoga and tai chi. These classes will be taught by world-class guest artists.
Lynn Deering, associate professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation & Dance at CSU, says that “students will have the opportunity to take classes with other CSU students, graduates and local professional dancers taught by a renowned roster of contemporary dance artists in an engaging, exciting and nurturing environment.”
“There will be around 45 participants in the Summer Dance Workshop, some will be past and present CSU students and others community professionals.”
Guest artists include Davis Dorfman from David Dorfman Dance, Nora Chipaumire from Urban Bush Women, Helanius Wilkins from Edgeworks Dance Theater and Erica Steinwig, formerly with the Repertory Project.
Faculty guests from other universities include Travis Gatling, Ohio University; Tammy Metz Starr, Bowling Green State University; and Jennifer Keller, Slippery Rock University.
In addition to the classes, there will be Friday evening and Saturday morning classes. Also included in the program are technique classes and two master classes with Hubbard Street II Dance Company.
After all their hard work at the end of the summer, students will have the chance to perform at the Ingenuity Festival ’06 at 2:30 p.m. July 15.
For more information on the workshops offered, call (216) 687-4883, e-mail l.deering@csuohio.edu, or access the Web site: www.csuohio.edu/dance.
