Ms.
CSU is bringing school spirit back
By June Kwitkowski
Mr. and Mrs. CSU, John Roman and Kristina Kuntz, are "bringing
the school spirit back."
They want to promote the idea of Mr. and Mrs. CSU as part of their efforts
to encourage students' participation in campus activities.
They won the titles because of their involvement on campus.
Mr. and Mrs. CSU were chosen at the Valentine's Day dance on Feb. 10.
"We are only required to host the karaoke event, but we want to
do more," said Kuntz, who attended CABsino, a free event for students
put on by the Campus Activities Board, on March 2.
The event gave students a chance to play casino games and win prizes
worth $5,000 without having to spend any money.
Elizabeth Hamm, a junior at CSU, was impressed by the games.
"They [workers] are teaching us how to play really slow and are
exposing us to everything so we don't feel like a novice when we go
to Canada to play the real thing," Hamm said.
There were refreshments, entertainment, a cash bar, a band, a DJ, and
even a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament.
Approximately 200 students participated in CABsino.
Kuntz wore her crown and a Mrs. CSU shirt. She was accompanied by a
group of friends who wore matching shirts.
They called themselves the "Mrs. CSU Entourage."
Each girl had a title on the front of her shirt. Titles included were
personal assistant, bodyguard, tiara polisher and flower girl, among
others.
Kuntz distributed candies to students so they would know who she was
and her goals.
"I think it's a really great idea to raise awareness about Student
Life's activities," said Tristan Hearn, a senior and mathematics
major at CSU.
CAB is sponsoring more events including a karaoke contest from 3-7 p.m.
on March 30 at the UC Shire, and an International Food Fest from 11
a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 11 in UC atrium.
