Schwartz is 'Big Man on Campus'

I would like to give Dr. Michael Schwartz, the “Big Man on Campus Award” for all he has done to help improve Cleveland State University and move it into the next generation.

The facelift that CSU is getting is long overdue.

The plaza, since it has been finished, is a great place for students and faculty alike to have lunch with their friends and colleagues. Although it was a pain to have to walk around the construction during the winter, it is definitely a beautiful finished product.

I also love the fact that they are building a new recreation center. Many universities have state-of-the-art rec centers. It was a necessary move for CSU to move in that direction to compete with other Ohio universities to attract athletes as well as incoming freshmen.

I also love that the university is building new student housing in Fenn Tower. Since I have been at CSU, I haven’t felt the university really made an effort at trying to get the students to stay on campus instead of it just being a commuter school.

When you have students who live on campus, you really change the atmosphere of the university, and students can really become involved in university life. It also gives students the opportunity to get the most out of college life.

Unlike several of the major universities in Ohio, CSU only had Viking Hall, and many of the students living there were athletes and distance learning students. Now, any student from Northeast Ohio can have the opportunity to stay on campus and not have to fight Cleveland traffic.

I am graduating in Spring 2006, but I am glad to see that future students will get to see what an unbelievable campus CSU will be in the next three years.

I know now though, that the university is in good hands with the “Big Man on Campus.”
