Buddhist art exhibition comes to CSU

The Cleveland State University Art Gallery will display “The Buddha Project: Visual Manifestations of Buddhist Thought in the Western World” from May 21 through June 26.

“The Buddha Project” will feature contemporary paintings, photographs, sculpture and new media pieces from more than two dozen artists, both local and from around the world.

The exhibit examines the transfer of the Buddhist teachings from Eastern to Western cultures within contemporary visual art.

The CSU Art Gallery is located at the corner of East 24 Street and Chester Avenue. The opening reception for “The Buddha Project” will be on May 21 on from 5-9 p.m. Both the reception and exhibit is free to the public. Hours are Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p. m.

West Center hosting Transfer Day

Cleveland State University’s Undergraduate Office of Admissions will host Transfer Day, a program for people looking to transfer to CSU or return to college, on May 20, from 6 p. m. – 8 p. m. at Cleveland State’s West Center Extended Campus.

Representatives from various departments will be on hand to offer help and information on transfer-credits, academic programs and requirements, admissions and registration, financial aid, scholarships, and career development.

Students will have the opportunity to have their credits evaluated before applying to CSU, to determine which qualify to transfer. Students must bring their official transcripts in a sealed envelope from their college to take advantage of this free service.

College of Education and Human Services earns accreditation from NCATE

Cleveland State University’s College of Education and Human Services has achieved continuing accreditation until 2008.

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) announced that CSU’s College of Education and Human Services met six of six standards without any citations for areas of improvement. NCATE currently accredits 575 institutions, which are responsible for two-thirds of the nation’s graduating teachers annually.

East Center slated to open in Solon

Cleveland State University announced its new East Center Extended Campus will be located in the Centre Point Building at 34055 Solon Road, Solon.

The new off-campus location will open in time for the fall semester, beginning Saturday, Aug. 28.

East Center will serve 26 communities within a 30-minute drive, for both part-time students and adults. West Center, which opened in the fall of 2003, has attracted more than 700 students to work toward their degrees, update job skills or complete certificate programs.

Singers' Club presents "Synergy"

The Singers’ Club of Cleveland will visit Cleveland State University’s Waetjen Auditorium to present “Synergy,” a choral concert that will feature Northeast Ohio artists with widely varied backgrounds and age groups on Friday, May 21 at 8 . Ticket prices for the concert are $8 for students, $16 for senior citizens and $19 for everyone else. For more information and to order tickets, call (216) 556-4405.

CSU Chamber Orchestra performs for free tonight

Birch Browning will conduct Cleveland State University’s chamber winds and Victro Liva will lead the chamber orchestra in a free concert on Thursday, May 6 at Drinko Recital Hall in the Music and Communication Buliding. Cleveland State Summer Reading Camp coming up

Cleveland State University’s Educational Services Center will put on “Summer Reading Camp ’04” for children in grades one through seven starting with session one on June 21.

The two-week sessions will cover phonetics, comprehension activities, writing, word knowledge and much more.

The registration fee is $20 per student. The Educational Services Center suggests signing up as soon as possible, since sessions fill up quickly.

The Annual Graduate Assistant Orientation Program 2004

The Graduate Assistant Orientation Program (GAOP) will be held Tuesday, August 24th from 8:30 to 4:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 from 8:30 to 1:00 p.m., location MC 201. The GAOP is an annual orientation provided by the College of Graduate Studies as a service and preparation for all new graduate assistants and tuition grant recipients for their new role at CSU.
