Sustainable communities program begins tonight
News anchor featured on Monday The Cleveland State University chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will present, “A Chat with News Anchor Stefani Schaefer,” Monday, April 26 from 2:15 to 3 p.m., in Music and Communication Building Room 274.
Schaefer anchors the 5 to 6 p.m. news on Cleveland’s ABC affiliate, WEWS News Channel 5. She will chat with CSU students, professional and staff about her experiences as an anchor and her climb to become one.
Sustainable communities program begins tonight The Levin College of Urban Affairs presents “Celebrating Assets, Recognizing Potential, Connecting for Change,” a program to explore future economic vitality and sustainable quality of life in the region, from 5 to 9 p.m., April 22 and from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 23 in the CSU Convocation Center, Carnegie Avenue at East 18th Street. The symposium highlights some of the creative collaborations, new strategies and replicable projects already occurring throughout Northeast Ohio, including the Cuyahoga Valley Initiative. Speakers include Dr. John Hartig, Detroit American Heritage River Navigator, who will discuss how structuring public and private partnerships to protect a natural asset can stimulate a regional economy and Paul Alsenas, director of the Cuyahoga county Planning Commission, David Beach, chair, Greater Ohio Steering Committee and executive director of EcoCity Cleveland. Roundtables sessions, which will run concurrently, include “Creating Places for Quality Living,” “Future Energy,” “Clean Water Economics,” Regional perspectives and Shared Boundaries,” and a “‘Capital’ Idea.” Thursday’s program is free and open to the public. Friday’s session is open to the public but registration is requested. The general fee is $40; students, with ID, $15.

PBS program looks at on-line teaching and learning From 2:30 to 4 p.m. April 22, CSU will host a satellite downlink from a Public Broadcasting Service program, “Untangling the Web: Making On-line Teaching and Learning Accessible” in Rhodes Tower 702 (accessible from the library elevators). The event is open to anyone in the campus community interested in accessibility, distance education, web-based education or e-learning. The event is free but registration is requested to make sure seats and participant packets will be available.

College of Urban Affairs hosts housing program “Innovations in Affordable Housing: Design Matters,” a program for community development corporations, developers and other providers of low and moderate income housing, will be held Friday, May 14 from 8:30 a.m. until noon in the atrium of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, 1717 Euclid Ave. The program explores the roles of planning, design and management in producing low and moderate income, owner-occupied and rental housing that is a long-term asset for the community, neighborhoods and residents. Award-winning architect Michael Pyatok, FAIA, is the keynote speaker. A panel discussion follows on strategies for building community support and ensuring long-term viability and affordability of housing. The event is sponsored by Dominion in partnership with Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland Enterprise Foundation, Cleveland Green Building Coalition, Cleveland Neighborhood Development Coalition with the support of SBC.
