West Center plans Open House

CSU’s West Center extended campus is holding an open house Friday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The center is located in Westlake at 26202 Detroit Road, at the I-90 and Columbia Road exit.

Information will be available on the master’s programs offered in business, education, public administration and health administration, along with an accelerated bachelor of business and a variety of undergraduate courses.

Photo exhibit opens Dec. 1

A photography exhibit showcasing some of the most important milestones, events and people that have shaped labor and management in Northeast Ohio from the 1960s to present will be on view in CSU's College of Business Administration from Dec. 1 to Jan. 30, 2004.

“Building Northeast Ohio: the Labor-Management Community Past, Present and Future” is presented by Cleveland State’s James J. Nance College of Business Administration.

It consists of more than 50 photographs.

$5 Student admission for play premier

CSU students can see the world premier of “Forest City” for $5 at the Drury Theatre at the Cleveland Play House.

The play is a family drama set in the 1960s based on a true story of Forest City Hospital.

It is by Bridgette Wimberly, who is the same author of last season’s Off-Broadway production, “St. Lucy’s Eyes.”

Spring orientation scheduled for break

CSU will host spring orientation during winter break onTuesday, Dec. 16 and Monday, Jan. 5 for new students, and Friday, Jan. 9 for transfer students.

Health Services offers blood sugar testing

The CSU Health & Wellness Services, a division of Student Affairs, is providing blood sugar testing for $2 during November National Diabetes Awareness Month.

According to the American Diabetes Association, one in eight people will develop diabetes, and half of the people who have it don’t know they have the disease.

An appointment must be made for testing at SR 153, by calling (216) 687-3649.

Women in Science and Engineering panel discussion planned for Nov. 21

A panel of women scientists and engineers will discuss their careers on Friday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Dively Hall in the College of Urban Affairs.

The panel includes Angela Seldon, director of Interpretive Education at HealthSpace Cleveland; Elaine Price, executive director of the Holden Arboretum; Jennifer Brown, an engineer at Rockwell Automation; Sandra Villarruel, a doctoral student in biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University; and Denise Richardson, manager of business development at BioEnterprise.

The CSU Biomedical and Health Institute and the College of Arts and Sciences sponsor the panel, along with the Women’s Comprehensive Program, the Affirmative Action Office, the Student Women’s Association, the Society of Women Engineers and the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Role and Status of Women.

Light refreshments will be provided.

"Preferential Treatment in the World of Sports" panel discussion today at noon

CSU’s Society of Professional Journalists chapter will present a panel discussion entitled “Preferential Treatment in the World of Sports” in the Waetjen Auditorium Lobby in the Music and Communication Building.

It will take place Thursday, Nov. 20 from 12 to 1 p.m.

WEWS News Channel 5’s Sports Director Chris Miller will be on the panel along with other sports journalists from around Cleveland.

A light lunch will be provided, and all students, faculty and staff are welcome.

Third annual "Lord of the Rings" reading marathon takes place at THE EDGE

The EDGE: Lutheran Campus Ministry & Art Gallery, the CSU English Department and New Line Cinema are holding the third annual “Lord of the Rings” reading marathon celebration Thursday, Nov. 20 to Nov. 22.

Events will be held at Mather Mansion on Euclid Avenue and include four workshops on the first day, “Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers” screening on the second day along with a reception.

The reading marathon begins Friday night.

It concludes Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. with actor Wayne Turney reading.

Prize drawings total about $2,000.

The events are free, but registration is required for the workshops and to read.

Tower City, CSU basketball pep rally planned for tonight

Tower City Center will be filled with CSU cheer Thursday, Nov. 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the main lobby area by the fountains.

The CSU Athletic Department and Tower City have recently partnered, and this basketball pep rally will be the first event to promote the new collaboration.

Booths will be set up selling tickets to CSU basketball games and information about the basketball teams.

The men and women’s teams will be present along with the band, cheerleaders and Vikettes.

The event is free and open to the public.

Orchestra and Chamber Winds provide free concert in Waetjen Auditorium tonight

The Cleveland State University Orchestra, under the direction of Victor Liva, conductor, and the Cleveland State University Chamber Winds, under the direction of Birch Browning, conductor, will present a free concert Thursday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. in Waetjen Auditorium in the Music and Communication Building, 2001 Euclid Avenue.
