Lecture series kicks off third season Concert open for keyboard series
The CSU Black Studies Program is hosting Relationship Workshops. The workshops will include: "Mars and Venus - Are Men and Women Really Different?" Oct. 16; "Finding Your Soulmate," Oct. 23; and "The Real Rules for a great Relationship," Oct. 30. Workshops will meet in the Black Cultural Center from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. The Department of Student Life and Playhouse Square have teamed up for the third year to give the CSU community the opportunity to see Broadway musicals at a discounted price. There is also an opportunity to purchase tickets for Disney’s “The Lion King” now, before public sale. To take advantage of this opportunity, stop by the Department of Student Life to pick up an order form. Lecture series kicks off third season Cleveland State University’s annual Cultural Crossings Lecture Series will kick off its third season by welcoming Camilo José Vergara, noted photographer and sociologist. Vergara’s lecture is entitled “Churches in the American Ghetto,” and will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. in Drinko Hall in the Music and Communication Building. The theme for this year’s lecture series is “The Humanities in the City: A Public Dialogue.” It will highlight the ways in which citizens interpret and give meaning to the urban environment. Concert open for keyboard series The Community Music Enrichment Program at CSU presents “Immortal Classical Masters,” the first concert of the 15th gala season of the Kulas Series of Keyboard Conversationsâ featuring renowned pianist Jeffrey Siegel. Registration nears for praxis exam The Praxis examination for education students is right around the corner and time is running out to register to take the first exam. Students must register by Oct. 22 for the Nov. 23 test date and by Feb. 4, 2003 for the March 8, 2003 exam. The exam costs between $55-$70, depending on what educational program the student is in. Students must pass the Praxis exam to receive a state teacher’s license. (By Casey Stahl) English Department holds seminars The English Department will kick off this month a year-long series of seminars featuring literature experts from various Ohio universities.
The first seminar will be held on Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. in Main Classroom room 301. Noelle Morrissette, assistant professor of English from Oberlin College, will be the featured speaker. (By Hannah Gleason)
