Stokes Lecture

The CSU Department of History will present “The Ballot and the Bullet: Carl Stokes, Cleveland, and the Black Freedom Struggle,” Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs, Dively Room – UR 112. The Lecture will feature Dr. Leonard Moore, associate professor of history and director of African and African-American Studies at Louisiana State University.

Series focuses on lakefront planning

The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs Forum Program, Northeast Ohio’s Waterways Series and the Cleveland Lakefront Partners will host the first of four forums discussing issues related to lakefront planning. The first forum, “Burke Lakefront Airport: Just the Facts,” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Burke Lakefront Airport Terminal. There will be a panel discussion from 7 to 8 p.m. and a question and answer session from 8 to 9 p.m. All forum programs are open to the community and to Cleveland State University students, faculty and staff. Registration is requested either online at http://urban.csuohio.edu/waterways, by phone 216-523-7330, or email to l.campbell-@urban.csuohio.edu. Upcoming forums will include, “Utilities and Railroads” the week of Sept. 30, port activities, Oct. 22, and Climate and Shoreline, the week of Nov. 4. Dates and locations will be announced. All forums will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.

Film festival at The Edge

The Edge: Lutheran Campus Ministry will sponsor its Fifth Annual Film Festival every Thursday from Sept. 5 to Nov. 7. Showtime will be at noon in the UC-Green room. The Film Festival is free and free popcorn will be available courtesy of Westgate Cinema. This year’s Film Festival will include the following movies: “Sidewalks of N.Y.” Sept. 12; “Training Day” Sept. 19; “O” Oct. 3; “New Best Friend” Oct. 10; “Iris” Oct.17; “A Walk to Remember” Oct. 24; “Focus” Oct. 31; and “Spiderman” Nov. 7.

Symposium planned at Urban

The Sustainable Communities Planning Group and the Levin College Forum Program will hold the Sustainable Communities Symposium 2002. The two-day meeting will be Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Sept. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CSU Convocation Center. The theme for Symposium 2002 is “Green Urbanism: What you and Your City Can Do–Seeing the Connections.” Register online: SCS2000.org.

Annual reception Sept. 24

The Friends of Cleveland State University Library will host its fourteenth Annual Scholars and Artists Reception on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Special Collections room on the third floor of the library. To request a submission form or to reserve a seat, call extension 9734.

Organ recital planned for Sept. 20

An organ recital featuring Cleveland State University faculty member Nicole Keller will be held Friday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. in Waetjen Auditorium in the Music and Communication Building.
