Circle of Recovery offers support Lost? No direction? Feeling alone with no one to turn to? If you answered yes to these questions, you now have someone to turn to. The Circle of Recovery, located at 7049 Superior Ave., is an outreach program for individuals searching for a new life. Prester Pickett, assistant to the director of the Black Studies Program at Cleveland State University, acts as a volunteer counselor at the Circle of Recovery. He uses round-table discussions on different topics to create hope and motivation for those attending the program, including ex-convicts and previous drug users. An ex-convict attending one session mentioned, “If it wasn’t for the Circle of Recovery and Mr. Pickett, I’d either be dead or in jail right now”. (by Randy Grays)
'Peaceful change’ planned for fall ‘For anyone who has confusion about where the state of the world is headed since the Sept. 11 incident or anyone who questions the retaliation taken by the United States, consider taking PSC 327, Politics of Peaceful Change. The class is offered this fall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:50 p.m. in MC307b. The course, created and instructed by Dr. Robert Charlick, is designed to offer an alternative to the emphasis on violence in dealing with international politics. The course focuses on what is meant by the word “peace”; how individuals can use this concept to make a peaceful change to the current state of affairs in the world; and what causes violent conflict among civilized nations and the harm it brings. This course satisfies many university requirements. Any student interested in taking the course should register soon, because only one section is being offered with 35 seats available. For information, call 687-4541.
