Elton John to perform at Convo

The Convocation Center will host Elton John on Friday, October 5, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $125, $75, $59.50, and $49.50. Also, there are limited number of seats behind the stage.

Other events coming to the Convocation Center include, Earth, Wind and Fire starring Rufus and Chaka Khan and Rahsaan Patterson, Sep. 22; The Sylvia Browne Lecture, Sept. 29; and Sister in the Spirit featuring Shirley Caeser, Yolanda Adams, on Oct. 13 and more.

Counseling Center focuses on academic support

The Counseling Center is offering weekly drop- in sessions called “Academic Survival Skills” this fall semester. The sessions are every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at 254B in the University Center. The first series started with study skills. It continues with test anxiety on Sept. 18; time management, Sept 25; and stress management, Oct 2. This session is repeated every Tuesday, until December 4. For more information, call the Counseling Center at (216) 687-2277.

Health Services offers free health counseling

Health Services is offering screening exams and health counseling to students, faculty and staff.

The screening exam is available only by scheduling an appointment one to two weeks in advance. Some fees will be required if outside lab tests need to be done.

Eileen Guttman, a nurse practitioner supervisor at Health Services, said that the exams are age-based screening and if outside lab tests are needed they will be less expensive than other places in the city.

Nikki Giovanni heads poetry session

Poet Nikki Giovanni will hold a conversation on Langston Hughes, Sept. 20 in the auditorium of the Music and Communication Building at Cleveland State University, 2001Euclid Ave.

The event is free and starts at 6:30 p.m.

President's chat set for Stilwell Hall

Cleveland State University will hold a “President’s Chat” Sept. 20, on the first floor in Stilwell Hall. This informal meeting between Interim President, Michael Schwartz and members of the faculty will begin at 3 p.m.

Any topics can be discussed except union-related matters.

After the meeting there will be “Meet your Colleagues” reception for all faculty. The reception will be a wine and cheese event with no speeches, except a word or two of welcome from Dean John Hemann.

IS&T offers CD courses

Information Services and Technology is offering CD-ROM instruction in Microsoft’s Office Suite for students, staff and faculty, said Pat Cunningham-Reid, training manager in IS&T.

Included on the CD are courses and reference books to Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Project

The CDs cost $10 and are available in Rhodes Tower 1104.
