Break-ins and thefts prevail in two-week report period from CSU police


Bike Patrol observes crime in progress
A bike patrol observed a crime in progress and assisted CSU officers in arresting a person involved in breaking and entering a car parked on Chester Avenue and East 19 Street.

The person was charged with criminal damaging and theft, and was transported to Cleveland Police Department Central Processing Unit. Stolen property that included a cell phone was recovered and returned to the vehicle owner.

Disorderly conduct at the Convo Center
A person was charged with disorderly conduct/ drunkenness at the Convocation Center on Sunday, July 1. A security officer complained of being bit by the person while being escorted out of the premises for not providing a valid event ticket.

Office supplies stolen from Music and Com building
Items from a shipment of office supplies that were temporarily stored in a room in the Music and Communication Building was deemed stolen on Monday, July 2, according to a report filed by a communication department staff member. A person identified as a former student has been charged with criminal trespass and theft in connection with this incident.

False alarm
A fire alarm was set off on Thursday, July 5 in the center stairwell of the Chester Building. It was reset and no suspects were found.

Auto theft
A report was made on July 5, of a stolen automobile from the AA-lot.

Equipment stolen from library
Specialized equipment including a barcode scanner, magnetic desensitizer and a VikingCard reader were stolen from a secured office in the library. Signs of forced entry were noticed. The report was made to CSU Police Department on Tuesday, July 10, but the theft may have occurred on the previous weekend.

Break-in occurs at concession stand
A concession stand in the Convocation Center was broken into and items appeared to have been stolen. A metal screen on the bottom of the door was kicked in, two bags of chips and two bottles of pop were stolen. The person making the report also stated that a beer keg in the room seemed to have been tapped.

Multiple thefts occur on campus
A number of cases (nine) of thefts have been reported from offices on campus.

These were cases of wallets and purses being stolen from offices that were left open and/or unsecured. Two of the thefts resulted in unauthorized use of credit cards.
