Cleveland State University sets summer swimming classes Music department offers summer program for K-12 educators Summers named to “In Tribute to the Public” Service Award Cleveland State University sets summer swimming classes Want to teach your children how to swim? Or better yet learn how to swim yourself! CSU’s Athletic Department is offering swimming lessons this summer. Eight lessons are included in a term and there are three terms: Term 1 is June 18 to June 28, Term 2 is July 9 to July 20, and Term 3 is July 30 to August 9. Ages 3 to 5 are in the preschool aqua tots, which meets Monday to Thursday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Level one meets Monday to Thursday from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. The next age level, ages 6 and over, which are levels two to four meet from 2 to 2:45 p.m which meets Monday to Thursday. Intermediate swimmers are levels five to seven and meet on Monday to Thursday 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. Cost of the lessons is $35 per term. Family discounts are available to families with two or more children enrolled in more than one term. For more information plus an application, call (216) 687-4800.
Music department offers summer program for K-12 educators The Music Department at Cleveland State University will offer a special program this summer on education and the arts. The Summer 2001 Music and Arts Institute features eight seminars on learning through arts providing professional development oppor-tunities for music and arts specialists as well as classroom teachers. Graduate credits including tuition charges are available for all workshops except the July 24 workshop. Summers named to “In Tribute to the Public” Service Award The College of Urban Affairs has selected William B. Summers Jr., chairman of McDonald Investments Inc., a KeyCorp company, for its 2001 In Tribute to the Public Service Award. The award will be presented to him on Friday, June 15 at 7:30 a.m. at Cleveland City Hall and council chambers. Summers joined McDonald & Co. as an intern as a student at Baldwin-Wallace College in 1971. He has been active in many securities industry activities and has received many honors during his years in Greater Cleveland. The Sales and Marketing Executives of Cleveland named him executive
of the year, McDonald Investments Inc. honored him with the C. Bert McDonald
award and the Anti Defamation League presented him with the Cleveland Chapter
Torch of Liberty Award.
College of Urban Affairs selects scholarship winner Tamara Smith, a senior at Martin Luther King Jr. Law and Municipal Careers School will receive the Mercedes Cotner Scholarship, a four-year scholarship to the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs on July 15. She will receive full tuition, room and board, books and other related fees at the university. Scholarship recipients are selected as future society leaders from
graduates of the Cleveland Martin Luther King Jr. law and Municipal Careers
Williams' plays planned for summer performances Cleveland State University’s Factory Theatre will present two programs of Tennessee Williams’ plays this summer. “Tiger Tail,” “This Property is Condemned,” and Auto-Da-Fe” are featured on Friday, June 29 to July1. “Small Craft Warnings” and “A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot” will be performed on Friday through Sunday, July 6 through 8. Performances are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $10; $5 for students and seniors. Call the box office
