Cleveland State University to host open house for prospective freshmen Hoops for Hunger food drive to benefit local food banks Homecoming dance to be held at Four Points Sheraton Hotel Women’s self-defense workshop is offered Latinos and Friends to hold discussion Faculty and staff talent show will benefit United Way on November 30 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to sponsor community service night Cleveland State University to host open house for prospective freshmen CSU will host an open house for high school students and their parents on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The open house will be held in the University Center Atrium, 2121 Euclid Ave. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from all undergraduate programs as well as be able to visit classrooms, labs, and more. There will be campus tours every half-hour starting at 4 p.m. For further information, call the Cleveland State Office of Admissions

Hoops for Hunger food drive to benefit local food banks Donate nonperishable food items for the Hoops for Hunger food drive in food boxes located in the University Center and throughout campus through Nov. 10. Donations will also be accepted at the CSU men’s basketball game on Nov. 11 at the Convocation Center. All nonperishable food items will be donated to area food banks. The
food will also go toward Coach Massimino’s Hoops for Hunger basketball
game at Lake Catholic High School on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. For more information
call the Campus Activities Board at 687-2244.
Homecoming dance to be held at Four Points Sheraton Hotel Enjoy and evening of food, music, fun at the Homecoming 2000 dinner and dance at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Independence. The doors open at 8 p.m. and dinner will be served at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 single/$35 couple if purchased by Nov. 9. Tickets purchased
after Nov. 9 will be $25 single/$40couple. A limited number of tickets
are still available. Tickets can be purchased at the Department of Student
Life, UC 102, or at the Campus Activities Board Office, UC 3. Only cash
or checks will be accepted.
Women’s self-defense workshop is offered A two-hour self-defense workshop will be offered free of charge to all
women in the CSU community on Nov. 13. Participants will learn mental,
verbal, and physical self-defense strategies. Julie Castagnero of the CSU
Wellness Center will facilitate the workshop. Class space is limited and
registration is strongly encouraged. To register e-mail Julie at j.castegnero@csuohio.edu,

Latinos and Friends to hold discussion Latinos and Friends, the only Latinos Hispanic organization at CSU, will hold an open meeting with fellow students, faculty, staff, and members of LAF on Friday, Nov. 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., in UC 1. The topic of discussion will be how to develop a Hispanic retention
initiative program. The purpose of this discussion is to keep Latinos from
dropping out of college at a high rate. For more information call LAF at

Faculty and staff talent show will benefit United Way on November 30 All CSU faculty and staff have been asked to lend their hidden talents to the Uniting to Share Campaign 2nd Annual Talent Show on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in the UC Auditorium. Any interested performers should contact Campaign Co-Chair, Sandra Emerick at 687-2048. Groups of co-workers are also encouraged to perform. Confirmed to perform are Donna Phillips, Deb Gosh, Rodger Govea, and Bill Bowen. Students are encouraged to come and cheer on their favorite professors,
faculty, and staff members.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to sponsor community service night CSU’s Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will sponsor a community service night on Dec. 4, at the Xchange Point from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The Xchange Point is an organization that promotes AIDS and HIV awareness
and safety. The Xchange Point is located at 1410 W. 29 St., off of Detroit
Avenue.
CSU to host open house for transfer students Cleveland State University will hold an open house for prospective transfer students on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Joseph E. Cole Center for Continuing Education, 3100 Chester Avenue. Students will have an opportunity to meet with academic advisors, professors,
and staff members to learn more about admissions, classes, financial aid,
and student life.
