The Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education will present the 2001 Education and Technology Show March 22 and 23 at Cleveland State's Continuing Education Building. The show is open to college faculty and administrators, as well as educators of grades K-12. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 per person, but discounts include 10 tickets for $90 or 20 tickets for $170. Additional information is available from the Joseph E. Cole Center for Continuing Education at East 30th and Chester or by calling (216) 687-4850. The show attracts hundreds of educators from Ohio who wish to find out how to use technology to enhance learning. The show will feature conference displays, booths, an exhibit hall, hands-on workshops, demonstrations, a showcase of technological innovations and a special PBS-TV exhibit (by Sharon Kramer).
An introductory breakfast will kick off the Faculty & Staff Appeal 2001 at the Cole Center (East.30th & Euclid) at 8 a.m. on March 20. In its annual effort to raise money for Cleveland State programs, the steering committee of the Faculty & Staff Appeal is asking colleagues to donate funds to the university. The drive is geared toward helping students and university programs in need of funding. Donors may designate which programs, scholarships, or projects their contribution will benefit. Last year, the appeal raised $103,000, with 853 faculty, staff and retired faculty donating money. This year’s goal is to beat last year’s performance. Pledges and gifts may be tax deductible and will be recognized in the honor roll of donors according to the gift level (by Ari Davydov).
The Center for International Services and Programs will hold an income tax workshop for international students on March 22. A representative from the Internal Revenue Service will present the workshop. The Center for International Services and Programs will have tax forms available, but will not assist in the completion of them. However, tax forms can be reviewed and assistance in tax preparation will be available from March 26 until April 13 in the Business Building Room 9. For appointments, call (216) 687-4718. All international students are required to file a tax return whether or not they have worked in the United States (by Meghan O’Connor).
A new program allows hungry Cleveland State students to choose from a wide variety of menu options while providing ease of payment. The Dining Dollars’ program offered through campus dining gives students the flexibility of food choice and convenience of a prepaid account. Unlike earlier programs, should you lose your card, Dining Dollars’ credits are still safe and will be credited when a new card is issued. Students may sign up for the program in University Center Room 272B with a current VIKINGcard and a minimum of $25. Credit cards are accepted, but a trip to the Bursar’s office is required to process the form, said Eva Boros-Schneider of the VIKINGcard office. “If a student puts $100 or more on their card, they will get an additional 10 bonus dollars for every $100 credited to their account,” she said (by Erika Fogle).
