University launches mobile app to increase accessibility

Cleveland State University has launched its first official phone app, myCSU Mobile.

The effort, which partnered the Office of the University Registrar with Information Services and Technology, provides students with a convenient way to check grades, make payments, register for classes, and request transcripts.

Users can access institutionally related information both within the app and through in-app links to CampusNet, Cleveland State’s desktop management system.

The program increases accessibility to Blackboard, the university’s web-based learning management system which offers online course support and class supplementation tools.

Similar to apps provided by The University of California San Diego and Texas A&M University, students can view parking and technology lab availability through the app.

myCSU Mobile’s main page features a dashboard where guests can arrange widgets or “tiles” for commonly used navigation links, which include notifications, what I owe, and grades.

To access its various features, users must sign in using their CSU ID and password.

myCSU Mobile was first announced in November and was designed for Apple, Android and Windows devices.

Despite its recent launch, many students were unaware that Cleveland State had a mobile app.

Senior Ali Dashiell, who is studying education, was unaware of the app until it was brought to her attention by several of her classmates.

“I did not know that Cleveland State launched this app,” Dashiell said. “I think that Cleveland State needs to better advertise the app.”

Graduate student Kevin Bogdanowicz who is earning his MBA through Cleveland State, is interested in using the app.

“I do not know that much about it, but I am considering using it,” Bogdanowicz said.
