Men’s soccer team wins its second shutout

Cleveland State University’s men’s soccer team scored its third consecutive win against Belmont University Saturday, Oct. 17 on Krenzler Field.

While it was a slow start, the Vikings had prominent control of the ball over Belmont, with several shots that nearly went in.

The first shot was deflected by Belmont’s goalie, and the second just missed the net and hit the goal post.

A rather chilly game, with temperatures creeping into the 30s, the crowd bundled up in winter coats and blankets.

The cold didn’t effect the Vikings however, with a final score of 1-0. Victor Zamora, senior, made the winning goal in the 65th minute of the game.

“We concentrated on defense a lot — we get better results when we move the ball around faster,” Zamora said.

The win was important, as it gave the team the extra push to move up in the Horizon League conference rankings, putting them now in sixth place.

“We really needed those three points in the conference — it should put us in the top six,” Zamora said.

Vikings had another goal opportunity in the last few minutes, with a corner kick attempt.

The men’s soccer team will play next at Ohio State on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The game at Ohio State University is their last non-conference game of the season.
