Cleveland State alumna to promote book release, Les Twins to host dance workshop

By Emily Scharf

On Saturday May 3, Cleveland State University alumna Stella Hall will bring the “Les Twins,” Larry and Laurant Bourgeois to Cleveland State for a dance workshop as part of her fourth book release.

Preceded by “The Bridge of No Return,” “Trio” and “Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote” part one, “Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote part two” is a part of Blac Panther Publications, created by Hall in 2008.

Hall — who also has a twin sister and loves hip-hop dancing — said her love was always to entertain, which she did through dancing and singing.

“Getting older, I still wanted to entertain, so I was trying to figure out how I can still use this talent,” she said, which is when she decided to start writing.

The release is centered around “Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote 2,” but Hall said attendees will receive a copy of both “Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote” and “Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote part 2.” Hall will be taking everyone’s email addresses and sending the free copies as a download.

Hall described the book as an urban street book about a young girl who got caught up in the drug world.

“She does kill people, she does do drugs — she is a gangster.”

Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote will be made into a movie and Hall wanted to do her book release in Cleveland before going onto filming.

Hall said last year there was a red carpet event for Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote featuring Chuck D of Public Enemy, who did the soundtrack for the film Swing Lowe Sweet Chariote when it was turned into a movie.

Hall said she wanted to do something different for her book release, which is why she decided to bring the Les Twins to Cleveland State for a dance workshop.

The twins — who are most known for their work with Beyonce and Missy Elliot — will each demonstrate an hour workshop, teaching attendees a dance routine. According to Hall, Larry will perform the first hour, followed by Laurant.

“Les Twins are part of my passion and they are like an incarnation of me and my twin being younger and speaking french — they’re just boys,” Hall said. “I wanted to do something different as a book signing, so that’s the reason why I have Les Twins coming.”
