Mens golf season starts

The Cleveland State men’s golf team opened its spring season on Feb. 17 at the 9th annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.

The two day event was held on the Wexford Plantation course in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Vikings opened the event shooting a 303 first round and a 316 second round.

The team finished 13th out of the 17 teams who participated, shooting 321 in the final round—despite the loss, junior Michael Balcar was impressive, finishing in a 17th place tie, among the 90 players who participated.

The Vikings ended their 2013-2014 season at the University of Dayton Flyer Invitational where they earned a second place spot behind Western Kentucky University.

Senior Andrew Bailey, earned medalist honors at the Flyer Invitational and was also named Horizon League Golfer of the Week for the third time.

They also ended last season with three runner-up finishes out of five events—and a fall team scoring average of 290.0.

The Vikings will compete in the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. March 10-11.
