High hopes for new hostel in Ohio City

Cleveland HostelWhen people hear the word hostel, they generally think of young people gallivanting across Europe, toting backpacks, and hopping on trains to experience far away lands. However, in recent years the trend has taken shape in major cities throughout the United States.

At the end of June, Cleveland will be the next city to offer travelers this experience thanks to Mark Raymond.

After attending Arizona State University and earning a Master’s degree in urban planning in Finland, Raymond’s dream to open a hostel in Cleveland is about to come true. Four and a half months of renovations in a century-old building led by Reynolds and his father, who owns a building supply company, are nearing completion.

Sky gazers gather at Edgewater to view Venus’ venture

For the last time in our lifetime, Venus crossed the face of the sun on Tuesday, June 5, which drew a crowd of thousands to Edgewater State Park to view the astronomical wonder.

Professional and amateur astronomers lined the Lake Erie coast with various sized telescopes allowing attendees to catch a clear glimpse of Venus passing in front of the sun.

Journalist Scott Raab reflects on time at CSU

Scott Raab has built a successful career as a writer from scratch with help from his time at Cleveland State University, the University of Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop and a little something called passion.
He was cranky and sleep deprived when I spoke with him over the phone two months ago. He was jetlagged from his recent trip to Cleveland, where he was born and raised, and was in the midst of preparing for a big interview with William Shatner the next day. I was just happy he picked up my phone call.
