By Amanda Wood

On Friday Nov. 25, the CSU women’s basketball team pulled out a 72-66 overtime victory in Western Michigan. With four players in double figures, this was a thrilling win for CSU.

Honesty King, who posted a three-pointer with four seconds left to tie the game, added 15 points and four steals.

Janelle Adams had a game high of 18 points, while Shalonda Winton tallied 16 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and Takima Keane added 10 points.

CSU dominated the overtime period, outscoring WMU 12-6 including a 7-0 run to open the overtime event.

On Nov. 27, despite a career-high 26 points from senior Destinee Blue, the Cleveland State women’s basketball team fell to Cornell, 79-59, when the Vikings were back in the Wolstein Center.

The loss drops the Vikings to 2-3 for the season, while Cornell improved to 2-4.

Winton and Keane scored in double figures again for the Vikings Sunday afternoon. Winton had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Keane had 11 points and three steals. Blue also added a game-high nine rebounds.

The Vikings came out strong during the opening frame, as CSU gained a five-point lead at the 12:50 mark, after a Winton three-pointer. Over the next six minutes the Big Red went on a 12-5 run though, and earned their fourth lead of the game at 18-16.
After Cornell was able to gain a 17-point advantage at 15:58 in the second half, the Vikings offense closed the gap to just nine points after posting a 10-2 run over a three-minute span. During the run the Vikings got a pair of three-pointers from Keane and Winton and four points from Blue.

The Big Red responded with seven straight points of their own to extend their lead to 15 points at 52-37 and controlled the momentum for the remaining 10 minutes of action to earn the 79-59 victory.

CSU continues its three-game spread at home on Wednesday (Nov. 30) when the Vikings host Akron at 7 p.m. in the Wolstein Center.
