Men's soccer goalie Brad Stuver garners Horizon League honor

October 27, 2011

By Rachel Tuma

Cleveland State men's soccer goalie, Brad Stuver, a junior, was named the Horizon League `Player of the Week' after his performance against UIC on October 14th.

After being announced as the Horizon League "‘Player of the Week", Stuver was smitten.

“It is always a great honor to be recognized for your individual performances throughout the season so it feels pretty good,” he said. “But as a goalkeeper you get a lot of help from your defenders, so this award is thanks to them, in a big way.”

Stuver made a career high with 11 saves to send the Vikings to the top.  He has helped so much with getting wins for the team.

“I have just tried to go out every game and perform at my very best, like the rest of the guys, giving my team every opportunity to come out with a result,” he said.

There is always a thanks in order when you are awarded with such an honor.  Stuver has his family on top of his list.

“There have been so many people throughout my soccer career that have helped push me to be a better player,” he said.  “My family has always been the backbone of my support system and they have made me want more out of myself because I know they will always be there for me.”

Coach Kazemaini has a lot of influence on Stuver as well as his other coaches.  They all have shaped him in becoming a better player.

“Kaz is a really smart coach and understands the game along with his players. He makes sure that each of us, as players, has the opportunity to become the best player we can be,” he said.  “Kaz, Denny, TJ and Mo, all have a love for the game that makes us want to give them our very best every training session and every game.”

Stuver believes that any accomplishment is a big thing in his eyes.  It really shows how mature he is as a person.

“Any recognition is a great achievement because it shows that other people recognize the hard work that we, as players, put in every day,” he said.

Stuver’s performance as a goalie has been an important factor in the standing of Vikings on the top of The Horizon League; however, Stuver attributes the success to the team effort for getting to this point.

“It’s nice to see the team getting the results that we deserve, but it’s even better to see that our level of play has continued to rise from one game to the next,” he said.  “I am really excited to see the progress we can make with the rest of the season and hopefully we can make a run into the NCAA playoffs.”

Stuver’s performance as a goalie has been an important factor in the standing of Vikings on the top of The Horizon League; however, Stuver attributes the success to the team effort for getting to this point.

“I am just going to continue working hard and help push my teammates so that we can get everything out of this season as players and as a team,” he said.

Stuver ranks second in the Horizon League with 54 saves on the season.  He is a big reason as to why everyone should enjoy watching the Vikings play and succeed in the future games to come.
