Radiance to raise money for scholarships

Scholarships are an important part of many students’ college journeys here at Cleveland State, and without some programs like Radiance some students may not be fortunate enough to make it to college.

“Radiance–CSU Realizing the Promise” is a signature event supporting student scholarships. The event has set a goal to raise $500,000 this year. The inaugural event last year raised $377,000, which was awarded to more than 100 students.

Radiance 2012It will consist of a cocktail/ hors d’oeuvres dessert reception with a short program. Philanthropist Don Washkewicz will be honored at this year’s event with the President’s Medal, which is the most prestigious nonacademic recognition that the university confers. Washkewicz is the chairman, chief executive officer and president of Parker Hannifin Corporation and a CSU alumnus who earned a bachelor’s degree from the Fenn College of Engineering in 1972.

Sponsors of the event are broken down into monetary categories.

The title sponsor for $50,000 is Parker Hannifin, followed by platinum sponsors Usha and Monte Ahuja, The Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center PNC Bank and University Hospitals, sponsoring $25,000 each.

The Adler Family Foundation and Guy Brown Express are sponsoring $15,000 each in the group of Titanium sponsors.

Gold sponsors for $10,000 are Brewer-Garrett, Cohen and Company, Collection Auto Group, Huntington Bank, KeyBank, Joanne, and Steve Kirk and Lubrizol.

Silver sponsors for $5,000 are Baker Hostetier, Richard Barone, Joanne and Craig Black, Richard L. Bowen and Associates, Fifth Third Bank, The Cleveland Indians, Invacare, Jones Day, Judy and Mort Levin, Neebo, Polly and Steve Percy, Judy and Bob Rawson, RPM, Squire Sanders, and US Bank.

Bronze Sponsors for $2,500 are Anthony S. Bakale, Patsy and Ronald Berkman, Calfee, Cleveland Thermal, Rita and Peter Carfagna, Ernest and Young, The Fedell Group, Richare Fleischman, Lucile and Robert H. Gries Charity Fund, Berinthia and Mark Levine, Dolly and Steve Minter, Marge and Dan Moore, David and Inez Myers Foundation, Nordson, Sisters of Charity, Superlative, Thompson Hine, and Terri and Ronald Weinberg.

Radiance will be held on May 11 in the Student Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Individual tickets for Radiance are $125 ($85 tax deductible). Individual sponsorships are $1,000 ($920 tax deductible, includes two tickets) and $2,500 ($2,340 tax deductible, includes four tickets). Corporate sponsorships at $5,000 and up also are available.
