Haitian Tragedy Brings Out the Worst in the Media

Of all the news events which occurred between fall and spring semesters, nothing stands out like the magnitude seven earthquake and series of aftershocks that have rocked Haiti since Jan. 12. News media outlets are always challenged in a number of ways when tasked with reporting on a tragedy of this scale. As journalists, how much suffering and helplessness can we observe before breaching our standards and injecting ourselves to lend a hand out of human decency?
