CSU Volleyball, Woodling Gym to host conference tournament
By Matthew Gadus
The Cleveland State Volleyball team finishes Horizon League play at
Youngstown State tonight at 7 p.m. They look to keep alive their 16
consecutive game win streak over the Penguins.
The Vikings will likely finish their regular season in 6th place in
the conference.
Cleveland State University will host the Horizon League Championships
on Nov. 20-23. The team that emerges victorious from the seeded tournament
is crowned conference champion and receives an automatic bid to the
NCCA tournament.
While the Vikings had a somewhat disappointing season record-wise, the
tournament is basically another chance. They can win the Horizon League
and receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning three
games.
The conference is as tight as it ever has been, there is little
difference between teams one through nine, said Head Coach Chuck
Voss. I really feel we are a good enough team to win it.
Playing the conference tournament at Woodling Gym, their home court,
gives the Vikings a distinct advantage. They have performed well when
playing at home all season. CSU is 5-3 at home.
Playing at home is generally easier because you have set your
routines and well have some fans to cheer us on, said Voss.
The Vikings are currently 7-18 overall and 6-9 in Horizon League play.
