The building that houses the Cuyahoga County Justice Center can intimidate the best of us, but don’t let the instant fear keep you from checking out what you’ve been missing there.
The Cleveland Police Museum and The Cleveland Police Historical Society are located on the first floor of the Police Headquarters in the Justice Center downtown. It houses some of the most interesting exhibits of Cleveland history.
The museum offers a unique outlook into the varieties of crime that have happened throughout the years in Cleveland. Hands down the most interesting exhibit in the museum houses the “death masks” from the Kinsbury Run Murders. The exhibit houses four facial reconstruction masks that were made to help identify the dismembered bodies of the Torso Killer.
The Kinsbury Run Murders, which were comprised of thirteen victims, were perhaps Cleveland’s most famous murders. The murders spanned from 1935 to 1938 and remain unsolved.
You can learn about everything from simplest of murders to the elaborate crimes of prohibition and the mafia from the area.
Another interesting historical piece visitors can take a look at are various types of weapons the police have confiscatede throughout the years.
You can also check out special products from the prohibition era. The museum showcases a variety of interesting products used to produce alcohol during this time.
The Cleveland Police Museum has been open for over 20 years and seen approximately 12,000 visitors from around the world.
