CSU Hispanic week celebrates Latin culture

An art exhibit of work from Cuban artists presented by Cuban artist Augusto Bordelois, is on display in Gallery C of the CSU Art Gallery, 2307 Chester Ave., until Oct. 1.

Bordelois will discuss the socio-political-cultural environment for Cuban artists in a lecture Friday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the CSU Art Gallery.

Celebrations for Hispanic Community Day take place from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the University Center Cage. Information from community and CSU organizations will provide information on resources and programs as well as music, activities, displays and food.

Ana Dumett, program director of the Hispanic Cultural Center, will teach salsa and merengue dances in the Music and Communication Building, 2001 Euclid Ave., from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Also on Sept. 28, the Hispano Danza, a Cleveland-area Hispanic dance company, will perform dances from 22 Spanish-speaking nationalities in Drinko Hall in the Music and Communication Building beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Felix V. Matos Rodrigues, assistant professor of history at Northeastern University in Boston, is the keynote speaker for Career Options Day on Wednesday, Sept. 29. He will speak on “The Promise of Latino Culture in the 21st Century” at 12:15 p.m. in Drinko Hall in the Music and Communication Building.

Engineering College plans fall semester activities

The Fenn College of Engineering has a full schedule of events planned through the end of December. These events are open to faculty staff and students of Fenn College of Engineering unless otherwise noted.

On Friday, Sept. 17, the Joint Engineering Council will host a volleyball tournament in Woodling Dome from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided and prizes awarded to members of the first place team.

Teams are limited to eight members. Rosters can be dropped off in Stilwell Hall 259.

The Engineering Student Enrichment Program will host an orientation luncheon for engineering student organizations Sept. 18 on the first floor of Mather Mansion from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Joint Engineering Council and Society of Women Engineers will host an Engineering Student Organization Fair and Membership Drive on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Stilwell Hall 130. Refreshments are provided and prizes will be raffled.
