The Black Studies Program is interested in models to represent various historical figures and celebrities in addition to actors and vocalists to present scenes and sing songs that celebrate various movies that feature Black talent.

Come prepared with a monologue or song of your choice from a movie that features your favorite actor/actress or a picture of a historical figure or celebrity that you look like to be considered for our Black History Month Finale on Saturday, February 25, 2006.

The Black Studies Ambassadors' Oratorical Contest will allow first, second, and third place categories to receive a cash prize and recognize three high school students who display their skills with memorizing and presenting a speech or published work by a Black historical figure.

2:00-5:00 PM
The Living History Museum--with the support of designated Black Greek Fraternities and Sororities, and various community organizations in partnership with the Black Studies Ambassadors, the African American Cultural Center will represent the legacy of different historical figures by having persons stand to represent particular Black heros. The growing list of individuals presently include Louis Stokes, Johnnie Cochran (Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated); Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated); Carter G. Woodson, Charles Drew, and Langston Hughes (Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated); James Weldon Johnson, Russell Gideon, Hermon Russell, Blair Underwood (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated); The Honorable Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated); Sarah Vaughn, Zora Neal Hurston, Councilwoman Fannie Lewis (Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated); as well as Prince Hall, Garrett Morgan, Larry Doby, Joe Lewis, Frederick Douglass, Marcus Garvey, John McClendon, Dorothy Dandridge, Halle Berry, Mayor Frank Jackson (Black Studies Ambassadors); in addition to the Tuskegee Airmen, the 5th US Colored Infantry Company G, and others who will be represented by various community organizations.

This day will include presentations of speeches by Frederick Douglass, Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and others. Students as well as their parents and teachers will have a chance to win prizes throughout the event based on their knowledge of various Black history facts.

Kuumba Arts Presentation: "Keeping It Reel: A Celebration of African Americans in the Film Industry" will highlight various films and film makers who have advanced the careers of Clevelanders or produced a film with a memorable music score. Film makers who will be acknowledged include Spike Lee, Robert Townsend, John Singleton, and others. Cleveland celebrities who will receive tributes include Dorothy Dandridge, Halle Berry, Steve Harvey, Arsenio Hall, Ron O'Neal, Richard Roundtree, Robert Guilliame and others.
