Department Overview


The Department of Teacher Education offers undergraduate, graduate, degree, certificate and licensure programs.  All undergraduate licensure programs are designed to provide professional educator preparation that result in initial licensure. All undergraduate licensure programs are recognized by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and their respective Specialized Professional Association (SPA).

Graduate programs are designed to provide advance training in professional educator preparation that result in initial or advanced licensure. All graduate programs are recognized by NCATE and their respective SPA. All Teacher Education faculty members hold terminal degrees and are highly effective and qualified in teaching, research, and professional service.

The Cleveland State University Model for Teacher Education is conceptualized as "The Teacher as a Reflective, Responsive Professional - A Partner in Learning."

The conceptual framework articulates the knowledge base underpinning teacher education programs. Cleveland State teacher education graduates are known for distinctive abilities that reflect the four knowledge bases that compose this model: Inquiry, Partnership, Contextualism, Professionalism.
