Cleveland State University offers several Adolescent Young Adult (AYA, or more commonly, “Secondary”) licenses. The AYA license allows a person to teach grades 7-12 in Ohio in that specialized content area. As an undergraduate student, the candidate is expected to graduate from their college with a specialized degree and a minor in education. The minor in education fulfills the state of Ohio’s requirements for AYA license. Additionally, AYA licensure can be obtained via a “post-bac.” This is for candidates hold a degree.

There are two principle routes to Licensure depending on the content specialization. Students interested in obtaining a license in Language Arts Education and Social Studies Education will work directly with the advisors in their content area and the advisors in Education Students Services (ESSC). Students interested in one of the licenses in science or licensure in Mathematics will progress through the CSUTeach program.
