Visiting Professor

Dinah Volk, Ph.D. has been invited to be a Visiting Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City this fall semester, sharing her expertise in the language and literacy of young children. There she will work in the Early Childhood Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. Fall semester at Columbia begins Sept. 3rd.

Dr. Volk is a professor in the Teacher Education Department’s Early Childhood Program here at Cleveland State University. She has taught at CSU for 26 years. At Teachers College she will teach two sections of “Language and Literacy in the Early Childhood Curriculum (0- to 4-year-olds)”. There will be an emphasis on working with emergent bilinguals with whom Dr. Volk has done extensive research.

Dr. Volk also will be advising students, working with doctoral students, and performing lecturer teaching observations. She also will serve on the Grant Advisory Board of the federally-funded Quality Universally Inclusive Early Responsive Education – QUIERE – project. Through QUIERE master's level students can earn certification in early childhood education and early childhood special education, with a focus on young English language learners.

This is her second experience at Teachers College. Between 1982 and 1986 she worked in its Institute for Urban and Minority Education as a Senior Project Associate with the Cross-Cultural Demonstration Project and as Coordinator of the Computer CHIPS Project.
