Gifted Education Endorsement

Candidates for the Gifted Education endorsement must complete all of the Gifted Education Specialization Courses.

Practicum cannot be waived as the course is required for the endorsement and entails a classroom-based research study that integrates what has been learned throughout the program. .

Below you will find a detailed list of the courses and course related requirements you will be expected to complete in order to graduate from the MUST program. You cannot test out of any of these courses (with the exception of ETE 501, see below,) nor can any field experience requirement be waived. In order to ensure the highest quality teachers possible, if you earn a grade of B- or lower in any course, you will be dismissed from the program. The courses are described in the chronological order in which you will take them. At the end of this sequence you will find a description of the research project required in order to complete the program.


Summer I

Fall Semester

Spring Semester

Summer 2

This is a 34 credit hour program that encompasses 10 graduate courses, typically taken in four consecutive semesters. It leads to two credentials: A Master’s degree in education, and a teaching license in Chinese.

This is a “cohort” program, which means that a group of students normally proceeds through all the coursework together. You can find a listing of the courses online at CSU Chinese Language Teaching Licensure Program Coursework.

Depending on background, some people will need to take supplementary coursework in Chinese culture, Chinese literature, and/or linguistics; if you are in this situation you will be provided with more details prior to your enrollment.

In order to complete the program you will be required to complete internship and student teaching experiences, pass an examination on principles of learning and teaching, and pass standardized examinations on your oral and written proficiency in Chinese.

In order to be admitted to the Chinese Language Teaching Licensure program, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Grade Point Average of 2.75 or above or equivalent acceptable score on a standardized admission examination
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Mandarin Chinese
