International Study Abroad Trip


The Center for Educational Leadership, partnering with the Confucius Institute, invites you on this exciting program in international comparative education. Students enrolled in the 3 credit Graduate course, EDB 609: Comparative and International Education will experience Chinese culture and education firsthand through school visits and city tours.
The delegation will be visit Nanjing, and Shanghai, and Beijing, the political, cultural, and educational center of China. The group will take tours within Beijing to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, as well as a day-long tour outside the city to the Great Wall of China. Also, while in Nanjing there will be visits to the Zhonshan Tomb, Linggu Temple, Zhonghua city gate, and Yangtze River Bridge.
The purpose of the course is to provide:
- Deeper understanding of the cultural, philosophical, & political forces shaping Chinese education
- Comparison of major similarities & differences in overall aims & structure between Chinese &
American education - Comparison of Chinese & American experiences with respect to educational testing
- Comparison of Chinese & American educational policies & strategies in light of the “global economy”
- Comparison of pedagogy in the Chinese & American contexts
The estimated cost for the trip is $3,400. It includes:
- Airfare, Lodging, and Breakfast in Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing
- Excursions (includes some lunches on excursions)
- Nanjing: Zhonshan Tomb, Linggu Temple, Zhonghua city gate and Yangtze River Bridge
- Tiananmen Square
- Forbidden City
- Great Wall of China
- Transportation in China
- Visa
Additional Expenses (beyond the $3,400) are:
- Meals ($300 Estimate)
- Tour Guide ($13 per excursion day includes tip)
- Passport ($135)
- Souvenirs
- Tuition for EDB 609 ($1,363.50)
- Textbooks for EDB 609 ($100 Estimate)
Health Insurance with International Coverage (check current insurance plan)

The 4th Annual Education Abroad Photo Contest represents the creative work and international experiences of the 2010-2011 CSU Education Abroad students. More than 200 students studied, volunteered, interned , and worked abroad during that school year, in locations as diverse as Argentina, Belize, China, and Italy.
